High speed car racing: Should Daytona and Talladega be banned
Stock car racing is considered a dangerous sport. The danger is what entices fans to watch, draws drivers to participate, and makes the sport interesting. If there were a ban on these two famous tracks, NASCAR wouldn't be the same.
NASCAR originated with the American muscle cars, or as classic rock puts it, "suicide machines" according to John Cougar. These cars were and still are a major attraction to the American motor sport enthusiast. The main reason American muscle cars still gather crowds, is because these cars create competition that can be won. Muscle cars can be tweaked to perfection, depending on the knowledge and funding one holds. NASCARis one of America's greatest hobbies, along with the restoration and perfection of the old American muscle cars. These cars are tough, and were built to handle excessive speed, and the sound of these torqued machines is irreplaceable.
The reason for such a question is obvious. There has been a few legends, or the best of the breed, killed at these tracks. These driver's died doing something they loved. In which case, simplified, means every one of them died happy. Regardless if these driver's are participating presently in the sport or not, their legendary abilities will never die.
The tragic losses that happened on these tracks, devastated fans, no doubt. As mentioned prior, these driver's lived for the danger of the challenge of these tracks, and the fans as well.
If these tracks are banned from this sport, what will be banned next? Football, because of injuries, basketball because of injuries, baseball because of steroid use, chariot racing, rugby? The list can go on and on. All athletes are aware of the risks involved while engaging in dangerous sports. Most of the time, that is the core of the driving force that makes the athlete or contender compete.
Recently, NASCAR has been compromised by the addition of Toyota vehicles in the competition. Opinions everywhere do not agree with this. The sport of NASCAR was founded by the American muscle car, Toyotas are not that. Toyotas are undoubtedly a good automobile product for those who like them, but NASCAR needs to stick with American muscle names, regardless of which overseas buyer has the funds to relocate the manufacturing plants.
Elements of NASCAR: Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, anything else is compromising the root of the competition, and should be prohibited. There are racing circuits especially for Imported vehicles, there are no American muscle names involved with those. When NASCAR integrated with Toyota, these types of ridiculous topics actually made it to a debate.
Years prior, within the stock car and NASCAR circuit, most fans would have been offended by a mere suggestion to a topic such as banning the two most dangerous and agile tracks within the circuit.
