eBay is the perfect tool for those who are looking for a bargain or for a rare item. Millions of people have bought items through eBay. Although the majority of people were satisfied with their purchase, many have been victims of scams or swindles. Read these tips in order to make the most out of your time in eBay.

1. Too Good To Be True: The old adage holds true even in the Internet. You found the item you were looking for, for hundreds less than you expected. If so, it is likely to be a scam. Before you buy, check what similar items are selling for. If there is a large discrepancy, be wary and proceed with caution.

2. Is This Really The Item You Want?: Make sure that the iPod you are bidding for is really an iPod and not a picture of an iPod. Or if you're buying an accesory, make sure that it is the right model for your item. Look carefully at pictures, research, and ask the seller questions.

3. Find a Seller You Can Trust: eBay has a nifty way to do this: every person who purchases something from a seller can give their feedback. Was the item in bad condition? Did it never arrive? Did it ship slowly? You can find out what previous buyers thought of a seller via their feedback, and hopefully avoid making the same mistakes.

4. New, Used, or Something In Between: Many sellers are looking to sell used, or refurbished items. If you don't mind a few scratches here and there, then buying used can save you big bucks. Just make sure you know what the condition of the item you're bidding for is in. If you're looking for new, make sure the description says it is new. If you're looking for something used, read the description and check that it is not falling apart. If the description leaves you with a few questions, don't hesitate to ask the seller. That's what they're there for.

5. Time for the Bid: So you're sure this is the item you want. You've looked it over and researched. It is reasonably priced. You trust the buyer and the item description seems good. Now it's time to make the bid. First, set a maximum price. That is the absolute ceiling that you're not willing to cross. People selling items in auctions hope people lose their heads and get into a bidding war because that raises the price. One way to avoid becoming involved in an bidding war and paying more than you should is by setting a maximum price and sticking to it. Second, do not bid your max at the very beginning. Wait until the bidding is about to end to place your bid. This will assure that you pay as little as you have to in order to get your item.
