Poetry: Misery

LIE

It's difficult to say "I'm fine."

After being left behind.

All the memories

Of you and me

They laugh at

Me in misery

And all the echoes

Of us so close

They hold me and won't let me go

I'm fine. I'm fine.

Everyday, that's what I say

I'm fine.

I'm fine. I'm fine.

Everyday, that's what I say.

A lie.

This mask that I wear

I don't dare

Take it off, lest I break down.

The coat of "Over it"

It starts to rent

Exposing the cuts that have me bound.

I'm fine. I'm fine.

Everyday, that's what I say

I'm fine.

I'm fine. I'm fine.

Everyday, that's what I say.

I can't keep coming to this

Fountain of rest

Just to spit the water out

I can't keep wounding myself

With cruel words

That inflict such pain

But I know I'll do it

And keep on doing it again

I could simply walk away

And leave this

Pain and misery

For someone to find.

But I'm left for someone

To clean me up

To clean me up

I'm fine. I'm fine.

Everyday, that's what I say

I'm fine.

I'm fine. I'm fine.

Everyday, that's what I say.

A lie
