For those of you in the New England area, there is a quaint and beautiful vacation spot just thirteen miles off the coast of Rhode Island, known as Block Island.
It consists of one town, (Newshoreham), and is populated by about a thousand people year round. Block Island is a sleepy little fishing and farming community surrounded by some of the most pristine and isolated beach front in the country.

It's bluffs reach, in some areas, around a hundred and fifty feet high, and the island is known for its conservation, and unspoiled landscape.
Block Island is only nine and a half nautical miles off the coast of Montauk NY. and weather you are coming by ferry or plane, off the coast of RI. or NY. it is less than an hour's ride. During the summer months, as many as eight ferrys are scheduled at different intervals of the day, bringing passengers to and from the Island. While day trips are prevalent, if you were looking for a weekend get-away, Block Island offers a multitude of Hotels,Inns, and B&B's, alongside it's numerous summer-long rentals.

The Island itself resembles the shape of a pork chop, and is referred to by the locals as such. It differers from some of the other more well-known and popular vacation islands off the coast of Cape Cod, or Newport, in the sense that commercial development is at an extreme minimum. There are no franchises on the Island, except for one Ben and Jerry's Ice-cream shop. There is one gas station on the ten mile Island, one airport, a dozen or so restaurants, and nightclubs, two grocery stores, and a smattering of some of the best taverns and pubs that offer up New England style hospitality, and menu fare.

Block Island is known for its great fishing, hiking, biking and beach going activities. It's also a great place to just plop yourself down in an Adirondack chair on the deck of any one of it's many seaside porch's and enjoy the Serene beauty and relaxing atmosphere of a lazy afternoon.
