Amid the global financial crisis and other global critical issues pushed into the hands of international leaders, a more important issue has surfaced that needed immediate action.
Issues about food crisis has long been a problem alerting all aid groups from all the continents to contribute and give aid to the impoverished countries in order to ease hunger.
And finally food riots in Africa and some Asian countries brought the issue into international attention.
The United Nations said that 100 million people from all continents are now in danger of having not enough food to eat. Ten million hunger related deaths occur every year which means that the world has failed to solve the crisis on food issues. Poor countries are starving due to food crisis. In Haiti last April 2008, food riots had staged due to food crisis. In Mozambique, groups of farmers have taken action and formed groups in order to help each other increase production and reduce hunger. In Kenya millions of people are hungry and in other Asian countries numerous people are hungry everyday.
The global change of climate and the rising food prices has worsened the food crisis issues. Poor families cannot buy foods anymore due to the high cost. This lead people to buy in smaller quantities and choose food that are cheaper. This is bad in that the nutrients that the food gives to the body is not obtained from poor quality foods. This causes another problem among the poor people.
Mal-nourishment and poor health is a food crisis related issue which needs to be addressed. And yet these problems are not properly given attention due to other global issues and the number of people who need help.
Despite the falling prices of food in the market at present, the food crisis is not yet solved.
Instead, as people grow more, food crisis worsens. Global climate change has also helped in the food crisis disaster as more agricultural lands are turned to other purposes like housing projects, and instead of planting crops for people to eat these lands are being planted with trees and other crops that could produce more money.
With the present food crisis, the world is faced with a disaster that is almost impossible to solve.
People in poor countries could not address the problem themselves for obvious reasons that they don't have the means to produce more. Despite aids from different organizations throughout the world, hunger is still an issue that has been going on for years. More and more people are going hungry everyday.
