"Girls Night In"

Life always seems to sort of get in the way. No matter how hard we try, 24 hours just does not seem like enough hours in one day. Unfortunately, the older we get the more our priorities seem to shift. Between corporate meetings and balancing our checkbooks it is very difficult to fit in a girl's night. But to maintain sanity in an insane world, a girl's night is almost like oxygen to some. We need it. We crave it. So skip that hair appointment or date with the guy that you don't even really like and make time for a girls night in.

I graduated college a few years ago and plunged into reality with the harsh feeling of jumping into a freezing cold pool without putting my toe to the water to test the temperature. I found myself daydreaming in my cubicle about when I lived with my three best girlfriends and stayed up well into the mornings dancing around in our pajamas to clich music from the 80's and eating bags and bags of potato chips. I'd find myself snapped back into reality by my boss crashing down more papers on my desk. I called the girls on my drive home and invited them over for a much needed girl's night in. Deep sighs of relief and happiness filled the other end of each phone call.

One by one the ladies showed up with a bottle of wine in one hand and miscellaneous typical girl's night in necessities. And for the rest of the night, we were not a school teacher, a nurse, a graphic designer nor a marketing associate. We were four girls covered in facial masks and soaking our feet in homemade remedies from our grandmothers. We'd exchange stories that started with, "Remember when" and "Can you believe we".

Why is it that the hours you want to last a lifetime seem to fly by and the ones that you can't wait to be over seem to drag on for an eternity? The empty bottles of wine meant the girls had to spend the night. It was just like being back in college and falling asleep to each others voices and waking up to them.
