Ahh, memories of my teenage years that was a time in the 60s I was happy and care free, life for me consisted of helping around the house with all the chores, going to school, and playing ball,or somekind of tomboy game with my five brothers.Mostly I remember the bike rides ,exploring in the woods you name it we did it.All the boys in the neighborhood use to show up after school to shoot some hoops or play softball.Since I was the only girl mom didn't like for me to play with all those boys so lots of times I was stuck inside watching all the fun through the window. That was a time in my life I was into experminting with my hair and makeup. My grandmother had sent me a satin gown, very icy blue color.I loved to dress up in that ,with my blonde hair and blue eyes i paraded in front of the mirror pretending i was a movie star.
I had girlfriends starting to come home with me from school,we had a sleep over quite often.Teen aged girls can be quite noisy at times and mom would send us outdoors. We got involved with the games with the boys.We sometimes teamed up against them.Life was just great in my teenage years but I wouldn't want to go back there again.Times were also hard for us .Today teenagers don't know what it's like to play ball with a sock ball that their mother has made from stuffing old socks.Or ridding on a set of bulgers, thats a wagon my brothers made from wood and axels and old wheels they had found throw away by someone else. They hooked a rope to the axel and made a guide. We had many good rides down a hill, but had to push it back up.boy those were the day's.Of course can't forget the snow sleds we made from just about anything that would slide .We grew up knowing that we were loved, but never had any of the things like teenagers have today. Our idea of a horse to ride was a stick with a can lid nailed on the bottom and a rope to hold the make shift horse as we gallopped for hours around the yard.
Seems like forever now to me as I recall those teenage years .We never had tv untill I was thirteen years old then it was black and white. But we learned things by watching those old tarzan movies, for instance we took hikes in the woods climbing up rocks and hills pretending to be in one of the movies. Picking up buck eyes and acorns we made necklaces from a rawhide rope dad kept in the barn. You know the type they use now for boot strings. We just had to have that because the natives wore them or so we thought.Looking back that was truely a precious time spent with my siblings and I wouldn't change that for the world.
