Are European women more stylish?

European women tend to be more stylish and less trendy than their counterparts in other regions of the world. Their sense of style derives not so much from their proximity to the world's fashion centers but from their ability to choose classic styles that work with their body types and to accent those styles with the latest accessories.

For European women, when it comes to clothing, less is more. They tend to purchase a few timeless, good-quality pieces, rather than a variety of trendy items. They realize that wool gabardine trousers in a neutral colour will get a lot more wear in the long run than pink corduroys. Traditional outerwear-a classic trench, for example-will remain in fashion longer and be more versatile than the chartreuse jacket. If you want to operate like a European when it comes to fashion, save the trendy colours for less expensive pieces, such as scarves or gloves.

The well-dressed woman's secret is to update the basics-the foundation of a European woman's wardrobe-with the latest accessories: a pashmina wrap, a layered necklace, a hip handbag. Shoes are important to the overall look. When purchasing shoes, pay attention to the heels. The shape of the heel is the surest way to determine if the shoe is in step with today's tastes. Spikes and wedges that evoke a 1930s-'40s feel are currently in fashion.

For European women, what's underneath the fabric is just as important as the clothing itself. Europeans tend to capitalize on their natural beauty by maintaining a healthful lifestyle, which includes a nutritious diet low in sugars and fats, lots of water and at least eight hours of sleep per night. They have learned that no amount of vitamin-laden cosmetics or pills is going to improve the appearance as much as these healthy lifestyle basics. Often you have to look no further than your pantry to solve your beauty problems. It's not the vitamins you apply topically to your skin that make it glow, but rather the vitamins you ingest.

Natural beauty is prized in Europe. Europeans tend to avoid the use of harsh chemicals, opting instead for natural solutions. Instead of chemical hair remover, for example, they might apply a natural sugar scrub. Occasional professional skin treatments, such as facials, are considered an investment in healthy skin. In certain parts of Europe, women wear little to no makeup, yet they look absolutely beautiful.
