When the movie, "The Secret" came out, I was hyped. I loved the theories and the ideas of positive thinking to create the life I wanted, however, I found myself skeptical that it would actually work. As much as I tried to remain positive, I was continually finding myself surrounded by negativity. In the end, I would absorb it, and begin thinking negatively, or having fear, myself.
I found myself struggling with this concept for two years, constantly living on my positivie-negative rollercoaster of life, and continuously trying to 'make' my life better, by living on the most positive side of life, only to be disappointed again. Many people that I talked to, felt the same way.
After growing up in a negative world, and constantly hearing what we can and can't do, what's possible and what's impossible, it's a very big change to make, and a big chance to take.
The biggest question in my mind, was how does this work? How can one positive thought, manifest into the life that I want? My first step was a creative visualization board. I did it for a life coaching techniques class as part of our homework, and then hung it on the wall of my office, more or less forgetting about it. About three months after completing it, I was sitting in my office, playing my new guitar. I happened to look over at my visualization board, and to my bewilderment, I seen my guitar on my visualization board. I put the guitar down, and went over to look at it a bit closer. Sure enough, the guitar that I had cut out of a magazine and stuck on my creative visualization board, was the same guitar (I'm talking, same make, same model, same colour and design) as the one I had received for Christmas, three months after making the visualization board. This got me pumped. I had actually witnessed one of my goals manifesting, and being achieved right in front of my eyes.
My next step? Creating another visualization board!
While The Secret gave these great ideas to what we can achieve by the power of positive thinking, it did not tell us why it works, and I discovered the answer to that only about a week ago.
Our minds have two parts, our concsious mind, and our subconcsious mind. While our subconcsious accounts for 95% of our brain activity, it is very seldomly used. Our concsious mind accounts for the other 5% of our brain activity, and it is almost always in control... it is the voice you hear that is full of negativity and self limiting thoughts, like you can't do this, you're too stupid, etc. The subconcsious
