I can't believe that in todays world, where you have to submit a risk assessment to the Health and Safety Executive just to go to the toilet, this actually happened!
Any doctor in the world will tell you that, drinking 16 pints of anything in a short space of time, is not going to be the greatest of ideas. Although, this view is not necessarily adopted by some of my more dedicated Friday night drinking partners.
Given such an input of fluid, the absorption rate of water into the cells of the body would make the cell walls rupture and, thus, the cell would " die ".
Physically stopping someone from urinating is a well documented form of torture dating back centuries, and can kill in a matter of hours. Urea ( one of the chemicals in urine ) is toxic, and if the bladder ruptures, will poison the blood.
Normally, I would adhere to my view, that people are individually responsible for their own actions and should accept whatever may be. People, far too often, try to lay the blame of their own short comings on others ( need I mention how many people are sueing McDonald's for getting fat!). You did it, you sort it out. It's what's called being an adult.
In this instance, however, I find that I can't. Sure, you would assume that when she started to feel ill, it should have hinted in her mind, that things weren't right. Carrying on can only be attributed to her ( misguided ) choice, but for a show to openly invite, and prolong, such a contest is incomprehensible! How was it ever " Okay-ed " by the bosses?
The other question, surely, is does anyone have a manslaughter charge to face?
