This is a great question. Happiness is something that every person wants to experience. I do not believe that people choose to be unhappy. It's not always easy to be happy, especially if things are not going right in your life. Another good question is do people know how to be happy and are they aware of the role that happiness plays?
First things first. What does happiness mean? What it means to be happy is when a person is content with their life. One who is happy accepts life for what it offers. They are not bothered by what others have and they do not complain about what they want or what they do not have. They do not express a frown often and is quite cheerful to be around. Most people who express happiness are liked by others. Happiness also means being happy with what you look like. Many people who tend to be unhappy about their size or unhappy about their hair and other physical factors tend to not be a happy person. Of course, we all want a perfect body and want a perfect life but the reality is that we should not want to change who we are physically unless health issues are of concern.
My best friend asked me was I happy and my answer was "I think so". When the question was asked I didn't think to say yes right away because I am happy for the most part but there are some things that I would like to improve such as, buy my first home, have another child, be financially comfortable and independent. I'm sure most people have the same thoughts but I am also grateful for the things I do have. I carry a smile on my face often and I try not to complain. In a social setting I enjoy being around people like me who express smiles and positive energy.
Many people who are not happy will admit it. This can be a cry for help. There are ways to encourage a person to find happiness. You can show the good that is in the person's life. You can point out to a person that are healhy if they are. You can talk about their great job or the wonderful relationship that they may be in. If the person does not have any of these things going on in their life, still encourage them to search for positive things. Encourage them to meet people, take them to social gatherings. The best thing to do is to include them in your life. People want to feel included.
If you are a person is happy, keep it up. Happiness can help increase good health along with mental health. If you are happy and you smile and laugh often you will notice that you feel happy.
