Beauty trends in Spring 2009 is about being all natural with an edge. Minimalism with a modern twist; it's about softness and femininity. The ever timeless smoky eyes, flawless radiant skin, long luscious faux eyelashes and nude lips dominate the runways this season.
Glowing flawless skin:
Skin for spring is healthy, dewy and luminous. Contour and contrast take centre stage; it is about interplay of lighting and shadow for the ultimate shimmery pearlescent look. Illuminating powder such as Radiance from Mineralogie is used to highlight under the eyes, along neckline and shoulders to achieve a natural-looking glow.
Cheeks:
Think naturally flushed cheeks with fresh touches of pink. This spring brings out the softest peaches, roses and pastel plums. Texture is all sheer and light weight to accentuate the apples of the cheeks and cheekbones. The lighter, the better; you can't go wrong with Nars Multiple in Orgasm. At Jill Stuart, models faces were dolled up sweet in periwinkles and roses. Pastels also appeared on lavender-glossed lips at Sari Gueron.
Eyes:
It is dramatic yet colours are softer and safer. Think translucent wash of lilac and not a shocking eye-popping purple. Light pink based lilac look good on pale skin. Makeup line, Vincent Longo introduced violet eyeliners to create a soft smoky effect that compliment every skin tone. Shown on almost every runway shows, long gorgeous faux eyelashes create an ethereal air of mystery to the soft dreamy doe-eyed faces.
Eyebrows for this season are also softer, more natural and more feminine. Heavy brows are long gone.
Smudgier and softer than last year's Gothic look, seen at Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney and Just Cavalli, rimmed smoky eyes with black pencil stood out on runways. To create this look, use smouldering eyeliner from MAC for a flawless application with smudge-able Kohl.
Lips:
Glittery, shining lip gloss is going out. This season, keep your lips nude or subtly sheer with a slight washes of baby pinks and peachy shades. For simple nudes, try Bobbi Brown's Nude Pink Lip Gloss or a tint of light hue with Super Moisturising Estee Lauder Signature Lipstick in Mayfair Mauve.
