When looking to choose the blogging platform which is right for us, the concept is exactly the same as when we are looking to choose a new home, a new car or even a new item of clothing. The very first thing which we have to consider is precisely what we wish to achieve from the blogging platform and how we intend to go about blogging. It is a matter of personal taste and suiting that which is offered to us by the blogging platform to what we are looking for.
We also have to consider how experienced we are online and how competent we are with the technicalities of working with online tools and services. I remember well when I first started using the Internet and was considering the concept of blogging. I had only the day before been shown how to connect to my ISP and subsequently launch Internet Explorer and yet it was recommended that I start a WordPress blog. I kid you not! I was totally lost, confused like rarely before in my life and seriously considering switching the PC off never to power it up again. Several years down the line, I still do not have the technical know-how to even contemplate using a blog platform such as WordPress. It is incredibly complex and technical and strictly one for the experts.
If you are an expert, all good and well. If, however, you are like I was - and largely still am - in that your Internet technical ability is extremely "limited," to say the least, you would be better advised looking to a blogging platform such as Google's Blogger. This is still a site which requires a little bit of getting used to - especially for the total novice - but what made me immediately comfortable with Blogger was that before I even signed up, I was offered a guided tour of the site and its more common functions. I felt as though this was a blogging platform which would help me to learn the intrinsic concepts of blogging and guide me through the more complex technical issues.
Needless to say, I signed up with Blogger and have never looked back. I have several blogs with blogger, each one with a different template design and each one on a very different subject. I love the way in which it so readily incorporates Google Ad Sense - I suppose it should, as it is owned by Google - but also such as Amazon affiliate products, HTML banners and RSS feeds to name but three. Essentially, Blogger gives me everything which I require from a blog hosting platform and I am delighted to have found it when I did.
The key therefore in choosing the blogging platform which is right for you is to first of all define what you want to achieve, what your abilities are and then - and only then - take a look around the Web to see the varieties of options that are available to you and which one will suit you best. It is not a decision to be rushed - my close call with WordPress can testify to that.
