When you write, they say to write about what you know. Writing about things that you know about makes writing so much easier, and makes the work flow much better. You aren't stopping to think about the details, because you lived them, and you already know the facts and figures to back up your argument. Chances are too that if you are writing about something you love, then you won't want to look stupid, and will find the information you don't know, instead of just guessing.
Sharing a real expereince in your writing is the same thing, and it helps your writing a lot. Not only does it help the quality of your work to have the infomration already in your head, but it helps the work sound more convincing. It flows better, and your points are backed up with better information as a result of having the experience to share.
I saw a Facebook group that was titled "I spent thirteen years in school, but experience was my greatest teacher." It really is the truth too, experience is our greatest teacher, and if you can share your experience you are sharing firsthand knowledge. The point of Helium is to write articles that will help people learn, and your knowledge will be the best kind out there.
Real expereinces add authenticity to your work. If you say that you think the retail industry is stupid, but you spent your whole life working in education, do you really sound credible? Maybe from a purely academic point of view its possible, but I would rather hear about the retail business from someone who has spent a nice chunk of time in the industry. That way I get a firsthand view, and some inside information.
Real world experiences cannot be disputed, and are easier to defend. You were there, you know what happened, and how the events in your life went. Who am I to challenge that, unless I also have real world experience on the topic at hand. Insider knowledge is something that you can't just make up most of the time, and is something that is hard to blow off as useless, or stolen from someone else. Even if you are getting the information from a friend, chances are the information is still pretty accurate.
Whenever possible, add real expereince to your work. It helps build your credibility, and helps establish yourself as an authority on the subject that you are writing about. The article will be ranked higher, and chances are it will get noticed, and make you more money. Experience is our greatest teacher, and we are hear to learn, so don't hesitate to give the best kind of knowledge, and that is the type you gain through experience.
