How to succeed on any freelance site

Freelancing is a great way to allow yourself the freedom to work from the comfort of your home without a boss hanging over your head. Knowing how to succeed at it is a different story. Being prepared is the best way to ensure your success as a freelancer. Going in blindly could mean you will fall flat on your face.

Freelancing means that you work for yourself. You choose the jobs that you want to take and you can walk away from it at anytime that you choose. You are not stuck without opportunities to rise to the top because you are already there. You see signs all over the place for "be your own boss" jobs. That is what freelancing is all about.

There are various types of jobs in the freelance market. The most notable is writing. Sites like Helium.com and AssociatedContent.com are great sites to start at if you are a writer. You will learn while you earn and that is never a bad thing. Here are some tips to help you succeed as a freelancer in this not so dog-eat-dog market:

Decide On Your Expectations

There is a large volume of sites for freelancers to obtain work. You should first decide what you want out of it. Know how much money you would like to make from it. Don't set unrealistic goals because this will lead you to fall into many traps. Freelance sites allow you to apply to certain jobs. That doesn't promise that you will get it. Understand that you will need to keep on top of things in order to make it work.

Beware of Scam Sites

There are leeches out there that want to attach themselves to your wallet. They will suck all of the money out of it and leave you scratching your head. Understand that freelancing isn't a get rich quick scheme. Legitimate sites do exist. They will not promise you, if you sign up today, that you will be rich by tomorrow morning. Legitimate sites also don't ask you to pay them. If you have to pay money in order to make it, chances are, you have found a scam site. Resist the temptation and be willing to work for the money you earn.

Networking

Networking with other freelancers will help you get a grip on what sites are the best ones. Those that are experienced at it will gladly share with you their experiences on such sites. The competition is tough as more and more people make the move from going to the workplace to working from their homes. Talking to others and following their advice could mean all the difference in the world to your success.

Make a Name for Yourself

Get your name out there. This means more networking. You want your name
