I believe, defining 'Christian Faith' is better illustrated in contrast to the depths of other forms of faith, whereas, one tends to lean on their own understanding, or lack thereof. To avoid sounding condescending...let's take a look at some things.
First of all, everyone has a measure of faith that is exercised on a regular basis. We don't think twice about it...we simply exercise it. To illustrate the type of faith one tends to lean on...let us look at various measures I'm weighing:
A MEASURE OF FAITH
Most people go to bed taking for granted they WILL awake the next morning (as they did previous mornings), whether by the sound of an alarm clock that was preset the night before, or by someone physically waking them.
We all exercise the simple act of sitting in a chair, with NO proof that it will NOT collapse. How about boarding an aircraft, and believing the pilot will safely take us from one destination to another?
These are merely a few examples which measures faith (in motion), just as driving our vehicles is a measure of faith we regularly exercise...not considering the functionality of its brakes when we go to apply them.
And, yet, another measure; consider a baby, who cannot speak, and does not even know what faith IS...YET, they have a measure of faith that is somehow automatic. It instinctively cries when it is in need of something they cannot provide for themselves... whether it is the need to be changed, fed, or held.
CHRISTIAN FAITH
Christian faith sees those things which are NOT, as though they WERE; a faith that is void of doubt. It's a state of mind, AND a state of being; a faith that is absent of fear.
'Now faith IS the SUBSTANCE of things HOPED FOR, the EVIDENCE of THINGS NOT SEEN'. Hebrews 11:1
Christian faith believes: 'For my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus'. Philippians 4:19
'Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear'. Hebrews 11:3
'But without faith it is impossible to please God: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him'. Hebrews 11:6
Christian faith says: 'I will lift up my eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord which made heaven and earth'. Psalm 121:1-2
Christian faith exercises: 'So then, faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God'. Romans 10:17
Christian faith rests in this: 'Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest'. Matthew 11:28
Christian faith, summed up: 'Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things'. Philippians 4:8
Christian faith is CRAZY faith; faith that speaks to things and circumstances; faith that constantly seeks the counsel of a loving God for an OUTCOME that cannot be met by man.
My friend, Christians walk by faith...NOT by sight.
