where I was confident enough with the basics to get lessons again and I continued to get manual lessons, this time with a female instructor.
My new instructor was lovely and talked a lot about her cats. She helped build up my confidence, then a few lessons in, she did not turn up. I rang the company and a family member informed me she had died of cancer that morning. Tragic and devostating, and yet another set back towards my driving. I was beginning to think it was not meant to be.
A few weeks later I commenced lessons with my former instructors niece, and finally, things started to go okay. I got to a stage where she suggested it was time for my test, so off I went. Unfortunately I failed the first, but a few weeks later I passed my second driving test and was the owner of my very own license... at the age of 23. I now drive, but to be honest, I am still reluctant to go far. I tend to stick to the same few places and leave anything further for my partner to drive us. A bit of a pain for him, but at least I now drive myself. For some, driving is not an exciting sign of independence. It is a chore and unfortunately I am one of those people who still dreads the thought of it, every time I get in my car. But in saying that, I am confidence that I am a good driver and hope to continue my perfect record of incident free driving since getting my license.
