Movie reviews: P.S. I Love You

In the book, these things were important to help Holly undo her grief.

Some characters were played very well, although their stories were changed a bit like Gerard Butler's character of Gerry. He did a great job with this role. He looked it, felt it and spoke it. He plays a ghost through most of the novel and the film. It was a great plus that they did not mess this part of the story up. The role of Daniel is played by Harry Connick Jr. and this too was played very well. You did feel he was Daniel and some of his lines were as witty and laugh out loud funny just like in the novel, but here again his story was different than the one in the novel.

The movie writers should have left in the original family dynamics and they most certainly should have left in a bunch of the scenes written in the novel. These things were important to making the audience feel for Holly and her situation. They were important to her growth of character in the book and would have been wonderful in the movie. But alas, they were not there.

Comparing the book vs. the movie, the book wins out. It was an original piece of work made to make you laugh, cry and smile. The movie on its own was a good movie but if you were like this author and many others it just did not stand up to the book. There were too many changes. The feeling was there, but the story was changed too drastically. If the movie writers had stuck more to the novel of P.S. I Love You, the fans would be a lot happier. The movie gets 3 out of 5 stars even though the actors were wonderful. The movie did have its moments, but it just did not live up to the standards set forth in the book. Try not to be disappointed; perhaps next time one of Cecelia Ahern's novels is made into a movie she won't let the movie people get away with messing it up as badly as they did this time. She is a young author yet and still learning.
