Celebrities always want to stand out and be trend-setters, why not use their children to help them to do just that? They are in the business of drawing attention to themselves. And didn't someone once say there was no such thing as bad publicity? Look at all the attention the stars are getting just for naming their babies. The entertainment journalists wait with baited breath for the name to be announced. There is just no guessing anymore. Will it be Elizabeth, Thomas, Peter or Melissa? Yeah right. Celebrity baby names are becoming more and more bizarre, if you will.
Non-celebrity people want their children to have a name that helps them to stand out in a crowd and not be the same name as 10 other kids in the class. But names like Apple, Kal-el, Moxy Crimefighter, Suri? And no, I am not creative enough to have come up with any of those names myself. Those are real names that celebrities have bestowed upon their little ones. Come on, these are not names for children, these are names parents give in hopes of garnering more attention to themselves. And lots of dollars for the courts when these kids grow up and have to pay to change their names.
Anyone know what Jon Stewart named his son? What about Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, what did they name their little boy? And surely Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony must have come up with a couple really good names for their twins, right? Poor Nathan Stewart, James Broderick and Max and Emme Anthony. Most people probably could not come up with their names. Why? They are "normal" average Joe kinda name. Imagine that from celebrities.
While celebrity baby names are becoming more and more bizarre, the trend in common folks, no offense, is becoming more old Hollywood. Names like Ava, Isabella, Audry, Sophia are more reminiscent of the Roaring 20s, the good old days of acting. People like to gasp at what celebrities name their children or they like to ponder what it would be like to have a Lourdes of their own. But in reality, most non-celebrities know the torture their poor little Zumas would have to endure on the playground. A person's name says a lot about them before they even open their mouths or enter a room. People form an opinion. Is it fair? No. Is it right? No. But it is just human nature. A name is an important part of a person.
Can't you just imagine a playground full of Audios, Honors and Moons? I don't think the celebrity baby names will catch on. At least not the most extreme names. Well, I sure hope not.
