The best age to learn a second language

From the moment a child is born they begin to learn how to talk. They pick up on sounds and then words. Slowly, they piece together an idea of how to speak. Then, from the moment they begin school, children learn how to write, read, and speak correctly. Even though children begin learning their first language at a young age, schools do not offer a second language until high school. It does take two to four years to learn a language, but a lifetime of speaking, writing, and general use of a language to fully understand it. The best time for someone to learn a new language is while they are still young.

While a child is young, they still have a majority of their brain cells, so they can learn quickly. If a child is taught their second language at a young age, they have their entire lives to perfect their knowledge of that language. By doing so, the child is more apt to pick up on a majority of things that could help them in their school career.

If a student is given a semester to learn a language, he is more likely to forget some of what he learned, especially if hedoes not use that language regularly. Because we use English every day, we know more about the language a do not forget simple words like "hello," or "morning." However, if one is learning German in America, he is more likely to forget that "morgen" means "morning" and "hallo" means "hello." Often usage is important in learning a new language. Because of this reason, adults have a harder time learning a new language. It is not because they do not have the ability; it is because they cannot find the time or the drive to make it through.

Young children have more time to learn a language because they are young and have more time to learn a language. They can pick up on little clues that help one learn a new language quickly and normally have an adult to help them along. Also, there are plenty of new ways to learn a language, such as movies and computer games; so children will not get bored nor will they realize that they are actually learning a new language. It is truly amazing. Watch videos with your child or play word games that have to do with that second language. Have fun while learning a new language.

Children are more apt to use a language, but adults can also learn a second language. The key to learning is repetition and dedication. There is not specific age that is best, but children do have more ease when it comes to learning a new language. Remember, no matter what, use what tools are available and use the language that is being learned often. Children can easily learn a second language, but adults can as well.
