Why eBooks are so unique

Created on: March 14, 2009

Instant access, instant enjoyment, fantastic usability features and all at a very low cost! This sums up the major unique features of eBooks but there are many, many more, read on and we will unpeel this most delicious technological fruit.

Different aspects of eBooks and eBook readers (eReaders), makes for strong unique features for different user groups, in this article we will talk about

-The avid reader
-The traveller
-Students, engineers and academics
-Business
-Those who have something to say

To get an eBook you simply download it from a network source, normally the internet and put it on your Mac, PC, mobile phone, Kindle, e-reader or I-Pod (We will explain the I-Pod later). Then read it almost like any normal book.

Like the mobile phone and GPS personal navigation devices, eBooks and particularly eReaders are pervasive technologies and once used, quickly become accepted and second nature. The acceptance of which is allowing new enterprises to develop as they become common place.

- The Avid Reader. -

For the avid reader probably the most unique feature is the price. Someone who buys a lot of books would see his/her spending tumble, eBooks are a fraction of the price of traditionally produced books, some are even free or provided on a "You give what you think" basis. Examples of this can be found at Smashwords.

It is now almost possible to buy an eBook instantly from just about any position in the civilised world, providing that position is supported by a mobile telephone system. Amazons Kindle and Stanza on an iPhone, both deliver eBooks directly to your hand using the telephone system, the need to even plug in a wire is being removed.

The inconvenience of having to trek to and from the bookshop, of the possibility for a book to be out of stock, or of you not actually finding it on the shelves, are all removed with eBooks. Even when buying from the internet book sellers like Amazon, the book can be out of stock and you will still have to wait for the mail man to deliver it.

The good sites that sell eBooks, allow you to browse well into the pages of the eBook, which is similar to the browsing you can do in stores, this although it is not a unique feature compared with stores is unique to the internet vendors, where you have to make a choice on what to purchase by the publishers summary only.

eBooks are incredibly portable, whole libraries can be stored in very small devices and carried around where ever you go. You can transfer your book from your phone to the computer
