Homemade healthy dog treats

When I had two beautiful Pekingese I loved to make their treats. They also loved to eat these homemade treats, which were healthy for them and not difficult to make. I found that I could use a variety of scrap meats. I used leftover veggies and other healthful ingredients I'd otherwise have tossed as unfit for human consumption. The following recipe for Homemade Dog Biscuits' is something your dog will thrive on.

Dry Ingredients:

1 cup whole wheat flour

1 cup all purpose flour, plus any needed for stickiness

cup corn meal

cup Bisquick Mix

2 teaspoons baking powder

4 Tablespoons dry instant milk powder

Wet ingredients:

1 Tablespoon molasses

2 tablespoons peanut butter

1 egg

1 cup water

2 cups meat scraps
Instructions:
Put the wet ingredients into the blender jar and blend on liquefy or ice crush until it turns to slush constancy.
Mix the dry ingredients together and make a well in the middle.
Pour the wet ingredients into the well. Stir carefully until well mixed.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead until it's no longer sticky. Keep adding flour a little at a time and work it into the dough through the kneading process.
Divide the dough in half. Flour the surface again and pat the dough 3/8 inch thick. Cut with a pizza cutter to make even slices through the dough. Cut to the size needed for the size, the treats are for. Place on a cookie sheet and pop into a preheated oven at 400 degrees and bake for 12 to 15 minutes. Repeat with the other half of dough. Keep an eye on them so they do not burn them. Cool and store in an air tight container or plastic bag.

Instead of using peanut butter and molasses you can substitute anything you can think of. You might want something for bad breath. In this case, use mint leaves and fresh parsley along with powdered activated charcoal which can be found at a drugstore*. A great number of flavored treats such as banana, liver, bacon, yogurt, tuna, and beef from baby food, apple, cinnamon, and honey can be used for a nice variety of special homemade treats. And, only you can control the nutritious ingredients used.

When homemade treats are fed to beloved pets both owner and pets benefit. The pet is sheltered from any preservative, additive, or dyes that may be put into his treat by the manufacture that made and packaged them. The owner benefits because he can rest assured knowing what is provided his pet aside from his regular food. Every ingredient is from his table, which arbitrarily is stated in Matthew 5:27 saying, ". . . yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters table."

I always have meat scraps from meals. I like to conserve and find a use for everything. Today I used the scraps I'd saved in the freezer and made up a batch of treats for my neighbor's dog. I used the recipe at the top of this article. They turned our superb. They are so healthful I know my neighbor is going to be happy to give them to her dog. I may decide to make more for the large two year old German Shepherd another neighbor has.

I know my recipe for Homemade Dog Biscuits' will be enjoyed by many dogs through the loving provision of their owners once they decide to make up a batch.
