Body image and the size zero debate

I personally do not find a person of either gender as appealing when they are really thin. When I say thin, I mean you can learn about human anatomy just by looking at them, without using any x-ray machine. It's rather freaky in fact. But what can I say, with media flaunting celebrities like Nicole Ricci or Calista Flockhart, some people could get their perception distorted.

Each one of us is born with different frame. Some are more petite then others. But if we all think we should get down to size zero in order to get positive approval, then something isn't right. I'm one of those "unfortunate" ones that is endowed with quite voluptuous built. So unless I spent every waking hour exercising and refuse taking any food, it's rather impossible for me to get even close to a size zero. In fact, even if I manage to do all that, chances are I would still need to undergo some kind of surgery to flattened my hips.

When does this fascination with being extremely thin started anyway? When our parents were young, the society adores people with that extra meat on their bones. The television loves Marilyn Monroe. Those days, all girls want to be her, all men want to be with her. So what change their opinion? Thin is in, while healthy and curve is no longer desired? Call me conventional, but I seriously fail to understand the beauty of having rib bones sticking out from your body. Not to mention that it must be unpleasant to hug or cuddle such figure.

Between the two gender, I feel that criticism is much harsher on women. The society dictates on how a woman should dressed and look. Most of the time the biggest critics are the women themselves. Women with better bones structures and slimmer waist are deemed more superior then those that are not. It has always been this way for ages, but nowadays, they seems to take this a little more extreme. Extremely thin waist, extremely flat abs, extremely small overall body size. Just look at any fashion show, have you ever seen a model walking down the cat walk that doesn't resemble a hanger?

Please do not mistaken my obvious dislike towards size zero as envy. Like I said before, I'm a rather big women. Honestly, I don't mind to lose a few kilos. But that's just so that I can cut down my chances of having a heart attack. But not even in my wildest dream I want to become a size zero. Not even if everyone in the world is a size zero. Perhaps they should include that in the human's right charter. The right for a person to live their size like nature has intended. No one should be denied friendship nor popularity despite their large size. Then maybe the obesity problem in the world could be reduced. Because in my opinion, the more society ask for thinner people, the more people over binge themselves.

So my advice to you would be just love yourself, no matter what size you come in. Have a wonderful day everyone.
