My favorite fictional female action hero is one whom is rather new to the gaming scene. She goes simply by Faith, and she is the main character in a great game called Mirror's Edge. This game was developed by DICE and released this previous November. Faith is who the gamer plays as, and since the game is first-person, they do not get to see that much of her. Faith is what they call a "runner". The game takes place in a futuristic city with "Big Brother"-like aspects permeating the government. Messages to people are being controlled. A group of individuals who disagree with the government are fighting this, and using their abilities to deliver messages via the rooftops of buildings. The game is modeled after free-running, also known as Parkour.
From the beginning of the story, Faith shows incredible strength in her endeavors. She does whatever she takes and does not let anyone stop her on her quest for justice and the truth. Another reason that Faith happens to be my favorite female action hero is because she is realistic. Ok, so not every girl can run and jump from roof to roof, but esthetically, Faith is avearage looking. There is not one part of her body that is over-exaggerated. Faith is a video game character that could serve as a role model for girls in today's society.
Faith does not let anyone stand in her way. She is determined to do what is right. She is fighting the corruption that runs through the government and this is admirable, fictional or otherwise. Unlike many modern action games, Faith does not carry a gun. She can pick a gun up after disposing of her adversaries, but once the ammunition runs out, she drops the gun. The gamer can choose to play through the game without firing a single shot. I think this is a great achievement, considering how many games are solely based on violence these days. Faith does not let anyone hold her back. She can get past anyone and is always trying to help the good guys. If someone needs help and she is in a situation to offer that help, she is there in a flash.
Faith has many qualities that make her one of the most admirable video game characters of all time. She works hard to protect what is right, and also those who are close to her life. She never stops trying to do the right thing. Faith is not an unrealistic model of the female body. She provides a realistic image of a girl and shows that girls can do anything when they set their minds to it. Taking all of these factors into consideration, it is clear that Faith is the best fictional action hero that is out there.
