Dancing until the wee hours of the morning, cozying up to the bartender to get free drinks, and generally making complete fools of ourselves; those sure were the days, weren't they?
Life is vastly different at 41 than it was at 21. These days, I'd choose a night in with the girls doing anything other than partying until dawn and not remembering how I got home. Today, it's spa parties, card stamping workshops, movies, and anything else that allows me to be able to stay in and enjoy the company of my friends without having to shout and sweat.
Last month, my sister in law hosted a spa party. I debated going, because I know these events always cost more money than I have, and I am an impulse shopper, especially when it comes to make up, fragrances, and jewelry. But, it was my sister in law and good friend, and I couldn't say no. I had also just moved back in to the area and thought it might be fun to meet some new people.
The spa party was definitely an evening of pampering, fun, and relaxation. The hostess first met with each of us individually and gave us the most heavenly neck massage with a heated pillow. The pillow is heated in the microwave for a minute and then rested on the back of the neck. It was so soothing; I hated to give up the pillow to the next person.
During the time the neck pillow was working its magic, the hostess gave us an exfoliation treatment on our hands. I wasn't as impressed with this, but it was nice to have someone rubbing the lotion on my hand. It had been a long day, and I was more than ready to be pampered.
Once we each had our royal treatment, we went to the living room and proceeded to have each product demonstrated on us. We were babied from head to toe, literally with products for our eyes, noses, lips, hands, and feet. And, then of course, once finished, we were given an order sheet to purchase anything that caught our interested. I wanted to kick myself, because I'd forgotten about the neck pillow by then. I ended up with a nice bottle of perfume instead, and I only spent $30.
My sister in law made a delicious dinner, and it was a lot of fun getting to know her friends and enjoying the evening with some new people. Teachers sure do know how to let loose after the bell rings. It was a great time staying in with the girls, and I can't wait to do it again.
