Poetry: Subway commute

by Arthur Croker

URBAN UNDERGROUND

Are you looking up at me

Just let your minds eye run free

Every time you join me down here

is the air above so clean and clear

Do you walk to work when you leave me behind

Toiling all day to the urban grind

I'm safe down here without a care

Can the same be said for the millions up there

Every time you travel on this underground

Imagine you are on life's merry go round

Round and round all day you rush

Then back down here to a vocal hush

Now look around at the people close by

and say hello to all urban life, don't be shy
