BUTCOMBE
Have you ever been to heaven on a Sunday afternoon
Have you ever heard the birds sing perfectly in tune
Have you seen the summer sunset or seen the new day dawn
Then you will understand its beauty and wish you were
Butcombe bred and born
If you come into our village as a stranger to behold
we'll take you to the fairytoot that may still be filled with gold
Should you believe in ghosts we have one here for you
He lives down at the vicarage so we know it must be true
We have an ancient wishing well we hope you will want to see
and have at least one wish or maybe two or three
Now walk along the hedge-grows and see cowslips in the spring
Or visit us in winter and marvel at jack frost on everything
Winter spring or summer you will see God's beauty everywhere
So do not miss the chance to drop into St Michael an All Angels
and offer up a prayer.

Free Verse

Without an escape, woe is me
Where every single day is a copy of a copy

Hands shake, legs tremble
but I am not nervous
Balance lost, feeling dizzy
but I am not drunk
Depression floods, stubbornness
