Album reviews: Tha Carter III, by Lil' Wayne

The Carter III is the sixth studio album by hip hop and rap artist Lil' Wayne. The album was released on June 10th 2008 off of Cash Money Records. The album reached huge success, selling over 2.88 million copies in 2008, making it the best selling album of the year.

The album was immensely popular at the stores, selling approximately 423,000 copies on its first day, and over a million copies in its first week. Because of the huge success, and the massive amount of record sales, the album easily went 3X multi-platinum.

Lil' Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. was born on September 27th 1982. He was a former rap of the group the Hot Boys. His debut solo album was entitled The Block is Hot, and from there on he worked on his solo career. It wasn't really until the early 2000's when Lil' Wayne gained some fame, and became more popular in the rap and hip hop industry. It was with the release of the album The Carter, which really put him on the map.

The album contains three main singles, including A Milli, Lollipop, and Got Money. All three of these singles were extremely popular, and succeeded on the charts. A fourth single was announced shortly after the album's release, which is entitled Mrs. Officer. Mrs. Officer also quickly reached the top 20 songs on Billboard's charts. The first single Lollipop reached number one on the charts easily, and A Milli was also successful, reaching number six on the charts. Because of the huge success of the songs, especially of A Milli many mixtape and underground remixes were created of the songs, which can easily be found on the Internet.

The album saw huge success, as it is some of Lil' Wayne's best work. The album was nominated for multiple Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Best Rap Album. In fact, there was so much anticipation for this album, that some songs that may have been featured on the album were leaked onto the internet before the release date. Lil' Wayne took these songs as well as a few select new songs he had produced, and made them into a mixtape, which is entitled "The Leak". The Leak was officially released into the mixtape world on December 18th 2007.

In conclusion, this is probably the greatest Lil' Wayne album ever created. Although it is a very good album, I still prefer some of the more classic rap and hip hop from the 1990s, as many of today's songs are just not the same. Despite this, I would recommend this album for anyone who is a fan of Lil' Wayne, or of hip hop and rap, as this album will certainly be considered one of the most important rap and hip hop albums of all time.
