Pitfalls To Avoid When Giving Your Boyfriend a Birthday Present or Gift
So your boyfriends birthday is coming up soon and you are not sure what to get him. This does not have to be a difficult decision. Luckily men are not nearly as picky as women when it comes to the gifts they receive so this will make things a lot easier for you.
The most important thing to keep in mind when giving a boyfriend a gift is how appropriate the gift will be. The following are some pitfalls to avoid:
Do not send flowers, stuffed animals or anything too cute.
Unless you are absolutely sure that your guy is into this sort of thing, flowers and stuffed animals are mostly considered girlie gifts and probably will not be appreciated that much.
Do not send anything to an office or job.
While there might be some exceptions to this rule, they are few and far between. Granted it is usually fun for women to receive gifts that their coworkers will fawn over, but men are usually more private and do not want the whole world to know what they received from their girlfriends. Don't forget men like to rib each other as well, so you do not want to turn what could have been a great gift idea into one he resents receiving.
Do not give too much too soon.
What might seem like an extremely generous gift to you might seem like a scary noose around the neck to him. If you are only dating a short time keep the gift "dating time appropriate." For example, if he is into basketball and you are only dating for two months, season tickets for the entire season might be a bit much. A basketball jersey he can wear or a baseball hat with his favorite team logo would be more appropriate. Otherwise get him a couple of tickets for one game.
Stay in an Appropriate Price Range
If you are in a situation where you happen to make a lot more money than he does keep his ego in mind. You might think it is the greatest thing ever to buy him the motorcycle he has always wanted, but if the most he has been able to purchase for you has been a dozen roses due to a tight budget, realize your gift might backfire and simply make him feel bad about himself.
Remember This Day is About Him
While you might think that a romantic dinner at the most expensive restaurant in town would make a great birthday gift, he might consider going to his favorite local pub, wearing jeans and eating his favorite buffalo wings as the best way he can spend his birthday. Remember to keep his preferences in mind. You will be amazed at how much he will appreciate it.
