Going green: Easy and eco-friendly money saving tips

Most people are trying to find ways to live greener lives. But, they don't realize that there are many small things that they can do to not only live greener but, also will save them money. What a great concept, you can do something for the planet while saving you money.

The first, and easiest, is something that our parents have always told us. Switch off the light when you leave the room. Doing this not only save energy but it will also save you at least five percent on your energy bill each year. To save even more energy and money combine this with the new energy efficient light bulbs. These use less energy to run and they will also last longer then the old light bulbs.

Another way to live greener is to filter your own drinking water. Buy a filter that connects to your faucet or a pitcher that filters the water as you fill it. This is green because it prevents a lot of those little plastic bottles from ending up in a landfill ans you are saving money because you are not paying extra for something that already comes to you home.

If you want to save even more on your water bill you can install aerators on your faucets and a low flow shower head in your shower. This will lessen the amount of water you use without changing the water pressure. Because yor are using less water you will also see that your water bill is lower each month.

Another green tip that will save you money is to plug your appliances into power strips or smart strips. A smart strip will not allow your appliances to draw energy while they are turned off. While a power strip will allow you to turn the power off to that appliance. My family has plugged our toaster, microwave, coffeemaker, televisions and dvd players into power strips. When these appliances are not in use we simply turn off the strip. This has saved my family forty bucks a month on our electric bill. Now you may not save this much but even if you save a little bit of energy and money I think that it is worth it.

Now I could continue to rattle off many, many more green things that will save you money. But I do not want to overwhelm you or ramble on for to long. So if you are looking for even more ways to live greener while saving money try searching for for greener ways to live on the Internet. There are tons more tips out there and you might be pleasantly surprised at how many of those tips can save you a little green of your own.
