Ever since the classic 80s movie The Breakfast Club was released in 1985, it has been considered an instant classic. The basic plot of the movie is that there are 5 teenagers in high school, all belonging to different social cliques. They all, for some reason or another have to spend the day together in a Saturday detention. Of course, throughout the evening that they spend together, they come to realize that even though they all belong to different stereotypical groups; they aren't all that much different. The theme of this movie is most popularly known as a "coming of age" film.
The main characters include Andy Clark played by Emilio Estvez, Claire Standish played by Molly Ringwald, John Bender played by Judd Nelson, Allison Reynolds played by Ally Sheedy, and Brian Johnson played by Anthony Michael Hall. Of the group Andy Clark is the jock, Claire Standish was known as the princess of the group, John Bender known as the criminal, Allison Reynolds was the basket case, and Brian Johnson was the group's brain.
The movie was written and directed by John Hughes. The shooting for the film began on March 28, 1984, and ended in May 1984. The movie was produced quickly, but overall I feel that it came out great.
The cast of the movie ended up becoming close through the process of creating this movie, and because of this went on to star in many of the same movies together. They became known as "The Brat Pack". This occurred mainly because they all hit stardom at the same time, and of course all because of the same movie. John Hughes work in this movie truly is genius.
The movie has received a lot of praise as well, both in the 1980s and up until recently. As recent as 2005, MTV announced that the film would be awarded with Silver Bucket of Excellence Award, because of the 20th anniversary of the MTV Movie Awards. The entire cast was on the stage of the award ceremony in honor of the award. Unfortunately, Estvez could not attend due to a prior commitment, but the rest of the cast was present. This show aired on June 9th, 2005.
Overall, this is a great movie, and a definitely can be classified as a classic 80s movie. The Breakfast Club is known as one of the best movies of all time, and is personally one of my favorites. Since it's released in 1985 it has continued to sell millions of copies of VHS tapes and DVDs, as well as CDs for its soundtrack. It has been referenced in so many movies, songs, and television shows, it really is truly a classic.
