Testimonies: Finding God at the bottom of an addict's bottle

An addiction to alcohol is as bad as being obsessed with drugs only much worse as though with drugs, getting the money to purchase it is not as easy as just gong to Wal-Mart's and getting their 3 for2 cans of beers or the promotional wines or the toasts on Christmas day or when a new deal has been reached or just the Friday night boozes or the accompaniment to dinner. Eddy did not know when his addiction to alcohol started. What he noticed was that there was a massive change in his behaviour and he was behaving weirdly to everybody around him.

Firstly, he couldn't have a meal without a bottle of lager and then he started taking some cans of Heineken to work and then another can as he went to bed. His wife Marla warned him several times but didn't take it seriously as in her home country of Italy, having a glass of wine was not strange when having dinner but Eddy having so much glasses as well as beer worried her a little.

Secondly, his attitude to work changed as he became depressed at times and found it hard to go to meet clients or to strike deals. In fact, is boss had called him to inform him that he couldn't keep an incompetent staff especially during the recession. Still under the influence of alcohol, Eddy couldn't be bothered to change his ways and just drowned another bottle to take away his worries. To add more salt to the injury, his mother passed away and then his drinking went to the second level.

His friends had started noticing a change in him; he was duller, looked bedraggled and was always complaining as well as drinking. At home, he started picking up quarrels with Marla which caused her to leave to her parents' house with their children Francesca and Fred. Fred had been slapped by Eddy and he had unnecessarily shouted at Fran (as she was fondly called) and that was different from the fact that he stopped bringing the feeding money, assaulted Marla on several occasions.

Marla being a Christian went on different crusades for her husband's addiction. She had filed for divorce after the pressure from her friends b ut still believed that God could turn things around for Eddy. The church Eddy attended started praying for him and his friends signed him up for an alcoholic anonymous program.

One day, Eddy was watching television and was scrolling through channels when he landed on the TBN channel and a pastor was praying. He mentioned that God was healing an alcoholic. Marla watching the same husband prayed to God and said that it was her husband. Soon after, Eddy accepted that he had a problem and with prayer and counselling, he kicked the habit that the alcoholic anonymous couldn't help him with.

Marla got back with him and he has now been promoted and is helping other alcoholics and as well renewed his faith in God.

Though this is a fictional account based on facts, miracles do happen and God does heal and save people from all kinds of addictions. God loves you and all you have to do is to believe and ask him to heal you and he will.
