There are so many great movies out there that every guy must see that will either pull on your heart strings or get your adrenaline pumping. Like True Grit with the great John Wayne (Rooster Cogburn) fighting Ned Peper and his goons, trying to save a girl - well, keep her out of mischief anyway - it's a great western. Yet another western I thought was great is Tombstone, with Val Kilmer as the incredible Doc Holiday, Kurt Russell as the shining light Wyatt Earp, and Samuel Elliot as Virgil. The characters fit the actors as they portrayed the battle between the cowardly cowboys and the once retired U.S Marshals.
Now to the war movies. The Great Escape - need I say more. Steve McQueen rides a motorcycle to Sweden before a plane flies there - that's pretty damn good driving on his part. The Band of Brothers - although not a movie per se, it was a great combination of actual fact and action. Any guy that hasn't seen this must - it will show to all that those who fought that war were a different breed than us, that is for sure.
The car movies - Bullet - again, Steve McQueen is in a beautiful mustang with tons of crashes and fast pace chase scenes. Gone in 60 second - either the old one or the new. Great movie. The newer I like better, but just because of Angelina Jolie. Come on a chick in the movie that knows that much about cars - come on guys that is hot! But in short, great movie - tons of crashes, car jacking, and some laughs along the way that lead to the brutal dismantling of that gorgeous Mustang.
Now, some more of my favorite titles. All the Transporters - an awesome series that doesn't get old, unlike most sagas. Although the premise is the same, the different missions keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat till it's all over. Jason Statham is at long last our new McQueen or Stallone. He does most of his own stunts and he can actually act, which is an astounding feat for most stars now days. And the movie Death Race is awesome. The guy gets set up from the beginning - a fellow convict kills his wife and destroys his life till he has nothing, but a chance to take over as Frankenstein, a beloved character on the psychotic warden's game show.
Now all guys love action and these are some that I would put out there as great movies! Enter the Dragon - The Bruce Lee story is a great depiction and entry into a great mind, not only one of the greatest martial artists of all time. It goes from the demons his father never dealt with that people say are what put him in his bizarre coma and killed him so young, to literally fighting to teach other people his culture. He was told by a council to stop teaching us because we were their enemy. He didn't see us that way, so he continued and he married a white woman because he didn't see people as a color or a race. I believe he saw past all that and I feel that message needs to be brought up a little more. His son played a brought back from the dead musician in The Crow - not a well liked movie, but I feel that it was way underrated. It was a story about how love conquers all, either for revenge or obstacles this movie was not just about a guy and a girl it was about how people in power are also more apt to be corrupt.
Another one of my favorites is Interview With a Vampire, Anne Rice's great novel brought to the big screen with big names - Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. The story is about a man who wants to be a rid of a life he has no care for after his wife and child were lost during childbirth. A vampire finds him and asks him if he wants to become one and he gives in and does it. It really is a great movie and I wish that they would do the next book, The vampire Lesat.
