There is something for everyone, and there is simply no excuse. Time is an issue for everyone, but research has shown that even exercising in increments throughout the day is beneficial. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator, parking the car farther away from the office any movement is positive. Another avenue to developing a good body image is spiritual. When we believe in a Creator that created us in His image, then we have a foundation with which to believe that this image is good.
Sharing our talents with others and providing service to people in need also helps us to feel valuable. These are the types of activities that make us feel good regardless of what we look like on the outside. Accomplishing tasks that are difficult and continually challenging ourselves will build confidence. All of these things contribute to feeling good about who we are. We have a lot of ironies in our society. That same magazine that has the beautiful model on the cover, probably also has a picture of a decadent chocolate cake. Fast and fattening food is advertised at every commercial break, along with ads for exercise equipment or beauty creams.
There have been some companies that have tried to advertise with more realistic looking models, but they are few and far between. Models of impossible beauty are not going to go away. Realizing that they aren't realistic may be a first step towards accepting and loving ourselves.
