The Tree of Human Fate

And the tree was white as snow and bone, for its gnarled flesh had been rent of its wooden body. But for one patch where the golden bolt of light and flame had struck its solid form, it was black as any night in this year or the next. And it was weak and dead and dying.

And this tree was called the tree of Human Fate, and it was for thus is human fate...once strong and sturdy as an oak 'til struck by jagged lights. Our humble shell now crumbles 'neath the weight of dreams long lost and hopes now crushed. Our minds are stripped of all the vain desires, the flittering birds of power and lust have soared to skies beyond our reach.

And t'was 'neath this stricken ivory tree that soon I made my home in the afterlife, for this script that you read is my whispering voice stretching past the land of death and sorrow. And this is my story, for I am the tree, for it has me now.....forever.....for eternity.....we're one and two and a single soul divided. Come now, and listen to the whispers of my tormented soul.
