"One Nation Under(whoops)" wait a moment, you can not even say the "G" word in public schools anymore. We are no longer One Nation Under God, it is simply "We the People". Despite how you may or may not feel about that subject I do find it very interesting that a government fighting to take God out of the equation is fighting to get in to church.
Churches are offered various tax exemptions and even Christian schools are separated from local and national education standards in an effort to SEPARATE CHURCH FROM STATE. This has been a long going battle dated back to Jefferson's time. Thomas Jefferson believed that a separation from church and state was necessary for a democratic governments survival. And that manor of thinking has been echoed through the ages as the separations have become more and more defined.
Now, Suddenly! the state wants to remove control of a Parishes finances from the Catholic Diocese! Okay, lets really look at this. The diocese in these cases here, is being accused of embezzling money. This is a huge federal offense and the offenders should be dealt with my local authorities and should NOT be protected by the church. However, this does not give the state the right to invade a church, taking over and changing the way the church handles its own personal affairs. Obviously, the Pope is not going to condone breaking the law or misuse of funds, So why not let the church hand over the perpetrator and simply monitor future transactions for a while.
We are not just referring to a simple government oversight for a predetermined period of time. The government is wanting to go in a completely take over and revamp the churches financial dealings. The constitution (if the state even cares) is pretty clear on the separation here. So by insisting on this take over, would be a complete violation of the Catholic Churches Constitutional rights. On top of which each state has delved even deeper into this law making the lines of separation even more defined. So the state is not only breaching constitutional rights, but also going against its own state defined laws!
This could easily become a chain reaction that tells law makers we are not serious about our freedoms and are willing to hand over and cow down to what ever the "state" wants!
If "we the people" allow this to happen then what other rights are we willing to allow the state to trample on and overlook for its own wants. Today we are a free nation as one people, if we allow this to happen, tomorrow we will become "one nation under chaos".
