Fitness routines are like diets: there are hundreds, success stories frequently are mythical, and it is difficult to find one best suited to your needs, abilities and living habits. However there are some essential habits that when applied conscientiously, will provide a foundation for the success of any well designed program.
Physical Readiness
Having a physical examination before embarking on any physical fitness routine is a crucial first step in the success of your program. A number of physical ailments can influence the nature of activities you will be able to perform effectively. Indeed, there are health issues that can severely restrict a fitness program, resulting in the need for medical supervision.
Preparation
Armed with medical restrictions, find a fitness expert to custom tailor a program that establishes and meets your needs and goals, and provides exercises and activities that fall within the realm of your capabilities. Neither a program which does not stretch you physically, nor one that exceeds your limitations will be successful.
Self-discipline
Self-discipline is essential to physical fitness. Without your willingness and ability to adhere to each phase of your program, regardless of any discomfort or interruption in other aspects of your life, you likely will not succeed in reaching your goals.
Support of Others
The self-discipline you will be asking of yourself will not peacefully be obtained without the cooperation of those individuals who are an integral part of your daily life. It is important that you explain to those close to you how and when you intend to execute your fitness program, and ask for their understanding and cooperation in helping you be successful.
Consistency
Consistency and persistence are key factors in becoming fit. Part of your program likely will include rest days; take advantage of those days but don't create your own. A day off from working out feels good, and easily invites a second, or third. The habit of skipping activities or workouts is easier to break than the habit of sticking to a routine.
Progress
Make sure your program is adjusted as you move forward to ensure continual progress. Keep in touch with your expert; reassess the value of each component of your plan and adjust them as needed. Lightening your load can be as valuable as blindly continuing a burdensome structure.
Reward
Along the path to establishing and executing a successful fitness routine for yourself, don't forget the person most responsible for the program: you. Make a habit of periodically doing or buying something for you that is out of the ordinary. Your biggest reward will be improved health for the rest of your life, but the baby steps required to become physically fit deserve recognition.
If you begin a fitness program with medical advice and a purposefully contrived exercise routine, the habits convicted to its execution will make it successful and you, the executor, will enhance your health and your life.
