Card games have been a great family pastime for many generations. It keeps us busy on those boring rainy days when there isn't much else to do. The competition can get tight and the laughs can go on and on. Popular cards games have stood the test of time because of their intrinsic value to the American way of life.
It is hard to imagine how many hours those long car rides would have felt like without a good deck of cards in the backseat for the kids to play with. It probably would have made life miserable for everyone from child to parent. These old card games bring back fond memories for family members for many years to come. It is no wonder they stay such a huge piece of the heart.
Here is a list of some of the greatest family card games ever created:
War
The entire deck of cards is dealt out to the players. Each player flips over the top card in their pile. The person with the best card takes all the other cards that were laid on the table. If two people have the same card in play, they must go to war. They lay three cards face down on the table. These must be dealt from the top of their piles. A fourth card is then laid face up. Whoever has the highest card wins the entire pile that was laid on the table. Whoever ends up with the entire deck of cards is the winner.
There has never been so much fun as when someone yells out "WAR! " This game alone will be well worth the little bit of money that you spent on the deck of cards.
Uno
Uno is a little newer than some but it's still a classic card game full of fun for everyone. Players love to yell out "UNO!" when they get down to one card in their hands. The voice becomes disappointed when someone makes them pick up more. This is a great learning game that will have your family wanting to play all of the time.
Go Fish
This is a card game that is played with a regular deck of cards just like war. Each player is dealt their cards and they have to pair them up with other like cards. They ask the another player something to the effect "Give me all your eights". If the other players has any eights, they must surrender them. The eights have to be laid on the table. If the requested card isn't in the players hand, they will say "Go Fish". The player that requested the cards must then draw from the deck. The person with the most matches wins.
Solitaire
This game is just as it suggests. There is but a lone player. It is great for those times that you just don't feel like doing anything else and you don't have anyone around to play other games. It's been around forever and it will be around for a long time to come. The only other player you need for this game is the deck of cards and you are ready to have fun. It's hard to imagine that you could have that much fun playing a game by yourself, but it is possible. You can even play solitaire on your computer. It comes pre-installed on most PC's.
Old card games got that way because people love to play them. They all have one thing in common aside from being played with cards. They provide hours of fun and fill up empty time. They make the day fly by because each time you end a game, you will find yourself dealing out the cards again.
