There are a variety of reasons why someone may opt to work two jobs. In some cases it is due to economic necessity and the individual has no choice but to take on additional employment. Another reason it could be is one job offers better pay, but the second job includes health benefits. Other people may work two jobs simply due to gain extra experience, or could be simply due to preference.
The pros and cons of working two jobs are numerous. Whether or not you decide to work more than one job is a very personal decision depending on your individual circumstances. Before you decide to take on two jobs it is a good idea to weigh out these advantages and disadvantages. A primary reason to do this is so you can see if the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
Pros of Working Two Jobs
• Compensation
The primary benefit of working two jobs is pretty obvious because most people work because they need money to survive and pay the bills. In some cases one job doesn't generate enough income and picking up a second job generates enough income to make ends meet.
The compensation earned from two jobs might make the difference in being able to pay bills or otherwise impact quality of life. Finances are a primary reason someone may need to acquire additional income which comes in the way of a second job.
• Increase Job Skills
When you work two jobs there is an opportunity to increase your aptitude in different skill areas. Sometimes one job will complement the other and a stronger skill set can be gained from the experience. In other circumstances people may find themselves developing an entirely different set of talents.
• Diversified Resume
Two jobs may give you a competitive advantage on the job circuit because you'll have a variety of abilities to bring to your new job. If you have experience another applicant doesn't have, this may be the clincher that decides you get the job.
• Increased Networking
Networking opens the doors for many new possibilities, and if you're working two jobs you'll be acquainted with and interact with more people. This offers you an opportunity to have additional references and other endorsements if you look for new work down the road.
• Strengthens Time Management Capabilities
