Salesmen aren't devious people contrary to what most buyers may think. To the average salesman it revolves around making that darn sale! Days can pass by, sometimes even months and you still haven't managed to score in the ball game. Yes customers buy but it all depends on the salesman and how well he pulls the customers strings. Many of them have deadlines that they have to meet as well as added bonuses or incentives that they want to meet. So they play and never look back.
Sales requires a lot of communication and patience. If patience is not among your list of virtues my suggestion would be to toss the idea of ever getting into sales. Lot of factors can play into why a sale doesn't hit the books even psychological ones.
For example, we are in a recession right now therefore the purchasing power of consumers will obviously be low and the outlook of it ever sharpening up is bleak. This would lead to the abyss for many salespeople out there needing to earn the money. So how would you persuade your client or customer or whoever to buy your product?
There are many ways to approach this. You could start off with the low price products that you have to offer from your catalogs. Or if it is just one item that the salesman has to sell he could provide a demo for the vivacious couple while speaking clearly and concisely.
Peoples skills and psychological skills can also play a great role in whether you make the sale or not. Many times you would have to relate to your customer by blurting out stuff like "Oh yeah that happened to me once too when I used this product or when this other couple used this product" You know try to personalize with the customer some way or the other. This increases the response from the customer and it'll only be minutes before the salesman sticks the flag in the ground calling out victory.
Sometimes it'll even take a liar to make a sale. I'm sorry to put their moralities down but its true in some cases. Because some are just that desperate to make that darn sale! And at a time like this it'll only convert into rent and other basic necessity bills, which they'll need. It's all about survival skills for the fittest to them and the fittest are those that are prone to doing anything in making the customer's mouth so watery that he finally snaps and purchases the product. Yes customers buy but this yes response is controlled by the salesman.
