Tarot cards: Judgment

The card of Judgment is a foreboding card. Symbolically it brings to mind the last judgment day that most modern Bible based religions refer to. All appear to be rising from the dead to meet their fate, and the interpretation of this card is quite similar.

The Angel Gabriel blows his trumpet calling all souls, the living and the dead, to meet with their fate.

His purple-tinged wings show his power, his spirituality, his protective nature and his "higher" energies. Again we see the cross that consists of four equal sides, unlike the Christian Crucifix, showing that Gabriel has mastered the elements of earth, air, fire and water, and we are being called forth to account for how well we have mastered the lessons of these elements.

When this card appears in a spread the Querent is in a situation that may call for an examination of conscience, a grappling with faith, an awakening to the truth of a situation, or understanding. The influences of this card may cause the Querent to make major life decisions that will have long-term effects.

This card reminds us of our own mortality, and whenever we are faced with our mortality, we begin to examine our values and take stock of our lives. This card brings about this type of inner searching and reaching for the right choice.

The planet Pluto rules over this card and Pluto has direct ties to Karmic influences. If Judgment is predominate in a spread, there may be Karmic vibrations surrounding the situation, advise the Querent to make their decision with much forethought and consideration of the repercussions this decision will bring. The astrological sign of Scorpio is associated with this card through the card of Death and also through our physical death, which is also affiliated with the sign of Scorpio.

This Major Arcana is associated with the angel Heru, who is identical to the angel Hru. Hru is the Great Angel set over the Tarot and is at the Heart of the Tarot Deck.

Judgment is ruled by the Number Two in numerology and is associated with the element of water, but to the subconscious side of water more than to the emotional side. The psyche may be experiencing a rebirth when this card appears predominant in the spread to a new level of consciousness. When Judgment arrives in a spread you can be sure that a rebirth to a new level concerning the situation at hand is about to occur, if the subsequent cards are positive, it is a rebirth to a better cycle, if negative, a karmic debt is being repayed.
