When feng shui doesn't work

by Annie H. Liko

Created on: March 11, 2009

You had desperately wanted to turn your life around. You have heard of the wheel of life; the ups and downs of life but yours had been down for such a long period of time. You prayed harder, hoping for the Divine intervention and yet nothing happened. You tried whatever means suggested to help you get out of the doldrums; still nothing happened. You followed your daily horoscope guide religiously but still nothing good as claimed on the guide ever happened. Life became more crammed, more tensed with each stressful moment. You nearly gave up on your life.

But hey! Wait! Your quiet office colleague who had noticed your stressful looks and suicidal behavior lately had suddenly approached you and introduced you to Feng Shui - the ancient Chinese belief of enhancing good fortune. Finally, you thought there is hope after all... She promised to come over after office hours the next day but in the mean time, she advised you to clean up all your clutters - your salvations all those years.

Determined, you worked your way though, clearing all the unnecessary stuff, tossing them out of the house. That night, for the first time, you finally have one of the sweetest dreams as you are able to sleep without much clutter in your head, knowing that a better day awaits you ahead. Of course, it is only logical that you feel better because that was the very first time in so many years that your room looked decent enough for people to sleep in, after you have gotten rid of the piles of newspapers, books and old magazines stacked as high as you possibly can and the boxes under your bed, plus all those unused clothes strewn around the room. And you thought your friend's a genius. But wait till tomorrow.

She came after work, with a tiny compass in her tiny hands. She stood in the middle of living room, taking notes and then she's in your bedroom, and also taking notes. Finally, she sat down and looking intently into your eyes through her thick, black glasses; she told you that you have messed up everything. No wonder, you thought to yourself. Your bed is in the wrong position; your sleeping direction is wrong, your TV shouldn't be in that corner, and your table shouldn't be under a beam and so on. She gave you her note and advised you to place your stuff according to the good position which would help you get your life back. She volunteered again to bring you to the Feng Shui store that she had frequented so that you can buy the cures or remedies for the afflicted areas.
