The bill is a mistake because I believe it is unconstitutional. Even if it is not, it should be.

Nevertheless, remember that several churches in Connecticut have been ripped off by their clergy. In Darien CT, one of Bishop Lori's parishes was looted of $1,500,000 by its pastor. One of his Greenwich parishes was embezzled out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Parish property and other Catholic Church property have been sold to pay for the sins of pedophilia. Millions of dollars, donated by parishioners have vanished because of the neglect of those in charge of church financing.

It would be great if something could be done so we Catholics could feel that our donations were properly spent. Real troubles have happened. We clearly understand that the bishop did not know what was going wrong. But, they happened.

Many Catholics would like to see some kind of protection from the wickedness that money can bring with it. Many people would like some protection of parish property from the law suites brought about by grave sins. Yet, the bill proposed is too intrusive.

Bishop Lori's stated that this bill is "a thinly-veiled attempt to silence the Catholic Church on the important issues of the day, such as same-sex marriage."

Sadly, His Excellency Bishop Lori actually believes that same sex marriage is an important issue of the day. That day has passed even though he put a lot of time and church money to try and overturn state law.

In Connecticut same-sex marriage is CONSTITUTIONAL. Strange that some bishops would cry for the constitution to be upheld for their protection, while trying to take constitutional protection from others. "What is good for the goose is good for the gander."

In the last statewide election the Catholic Church got into the center ring of politics by calling for and supporting the referendum calling for the rewriting of CT's constitution. The Church's stated reason was to have same-sex marriage overturned.

Most voters in Connecticut understood what the referendum was all about and voted to rebuff the Catholic Church and the bigotry SOME of its members spew.

The bishops played hardball in the political arena. They forgot that politics is a two-way street. They made the Catholic Church fair game for political maneuvering. They brought disrepute on our Church.

"Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who trespass against us."
