As many of you know, video games come in all styles and forms and it all started off with video games that could hardly fit into any particular genre. We've come a long way from the days of Atari, and video games have developed into a multi-million dollar industry in just around a decade.
With the advancement of gaming into mainstream cultures, video gamers drawn in quite a bit of attention from software developers around the world. This leads to new genres of gaming being created almost every year. Perhaps one of the oldest yet ever evolving genres is still alive and well these days, role-playing.
Role-playing games are a genre of gaming that became extremely popular with the introduction of Final Fantasy in the late 1980's. In these games, the player typically controls a group of characters with one main character and the others being support.
Keep in mind that there are different types of these games, such as massive multi-player on-line role-playing games, and turn based role-playing games. Looking to find the best role-playing games to check out or start up a collection of games from this ever-changing series? If so, you've come to the right place.
World of Warcraft
Highly regarded as one of the best massively multi-player on-line role playing games, World of Warcraft has been causing quite a stir ever since it was first released in November of 2004. It may be hard to tell, but World of Warcraft is actually the sequel of Warcraft, and both games are set in the same world.
When playing World of Warcraft, players control a single character that they customized and create. Advancement in World of Warcraft is similar to the method used in other role-playing games. It's all done by leveling up, which means defeating monsters randomly found in the game.
With each monster a player kills, the more experience points they collect. Each level has a predetermined amount of experience points that players much reach to advance to the next level.
Games like World of Warcraft often have vastly open worlds for players to travel. In addition the storyline is driven by factions rivaling and quests found by speaking to computer controlled characters throughout the game.
Take note that there is really no way to beat these types of games, because typically the developers release various expansions that add much more to the game play. In addition to that, a player could always fight other players for fun or just for bragging rights.
