Poetry: Birds

by Danette M. Scott

Poetry: Birds

Every morning the rooster crows

Pridefully playing the only tune he knows

Robins dance playfully upon the earth

A rising sun signifies rebirth

Woodpeckers knock on the trees

Tapping out tunes as they please

Crows caw and hummingbirds hum

A bird symphony with fife and drum

Hawks and eagles climb into the sky

Higher and higher do they fly

Then suddenly swooping down

Barely touching the earth so brown

Birds busily beating their wings

Singing songs and building things

Mud, leaves, twigs, and strings

Homes are what their labor brings
