One event that is particularly popular in Albuquerque, is a special tour around Christmas called the Luminaria Tour. This tour usually takes place on Dec.24th, and includes bus rides around the city, showcasing the beautiful luminaria lights that are placed along different locations on the streets of Albuquerque. The tour usually lasts about one hour and begins with a special waiting area, adorned with holiday decorations and a place to visit Santa at the North Pole, along with the costumed greeters. This should prove to be an enjoyable experience for both children and parents alike. Last year, more than 4,000 tour visitors enjoyed riding one of the several busses that carry bus goers around the city passing by Old Town, the Country Club, Los Altos Neighborhood, and the National Hispanic Cultural Center.

Albuquerque also features the largest walk-through light show in New Mexico, at the Albuquerque BioPark Rio Grande Botanic Garden. It's also called the River of Lights, where visitors and residents can enjoy thousands of twinkling lights and dazzling light sculptures. The beautiful glass snowman collection, which is lighted by fiber optics, is also on display in the plaza. This River of Lights show is available to the public from Nov. 29 through Dec. 30, although it's closed on Dec. 24 and Dec. 25.

The New Mexico Symphony Orchestra featuring The Nutcracker Ballet is sure to please all who attend this annual event. This traditional Albuquerque event combines the wonderful New Mexico Ballet Company, along with the brilliant New Mexico Symphony Orchestra. This fantasy ballet brings the magical Nutcracker to life, with the colorful costumes, brilliant choreography and music blended together for all patrons to enjoy.

If you're looking to travel around the holidays in Albuquerque, NM, the New Mexico Rail Runner Express, starts offering trips in the middle of December, to Santa Fe and back. You and your family can enjoy a scenic trip from the city of Albuquerque, to the city of Santa Fe.

Holiday shopping maybe an annual, enjoyable event for many in Albuquerque, NM, when the Old Town, Albuquerque: Shop and Stroll and stroll takes place. Beginning in early December this event will offer free rides between the Old Town, and The River of Lights. Residents and visors can enjoy Christmas shopping at various stores, while enjoying the holiday decorations, lighting, and events, as well. The lighting of the holiday tree is also featured, along with a visit from Santa Claus, in the children's holiday parade.

If you like to enjoy a more adventurous outing at holiday time in Albuquerque, than the Sandia Peak Tramway maybe what you're looking for. This tramway, located adjacent to Albuquerque, features the world's longest passenger aerial tramway. It will take you above the canyons and terrain, to observe all the breathtaking views below you.

As you can see, Albuquerque, NM, is a city that has a variety of special attractions and events for the whole family to enjoy around the holidays.
