The quaint southern city of Richmond, Virginia's capital city, is one of the oldest cities in the United States. Some of the earliest settlements of Richmond date back several hundred years to the first settlers who settled the United States. Richmond and its surrounding areas not only play an important part in Revolutionary history but also in Civil War history. Richmond is a beautiful city that has remained loyal to its southern routes. This can be seen in Richmond's grand architecture, the polite mannerisms of its people and its devotion to remembering its past. However as much as Richmond remains loyal to its past, it is a modern city, proud of its diversity, offering a new experience for everyone who visits. Richmond is an excellent city for families to visit; the city has a lot of attractions geared toward all types of families.

Children's' Museums and Scientific Education-

The Children's' Museum of Richmond is a non-profit children's' museum offering exhibits to encourage the cognitive, imaginative, and physical development of younger children, from birth through age eight. The museum celebrates diversity and provides a safe environment for all children to learn about the world around them. The museum has an educated, knowledgeable staff to help both children and adults learn and have fun. The museum changes their exhibits regularly but Seymour the Dinosaur is on site almost everyday greeting children and there is also a daily storytime.

The museum is inexpensive, the cost $8.00 per person with free on-site parking. You may view the museum's website, http://www.c-mor.org/ for hours and directions.

The Metro Richmond Zoo is a fairly new zoo; 1995 was its opening season. Since its opening the zoo has established one of the largest primate collections in the United States. The zoo has over 1400 animals with 150 species represented. The zoo focuses on wildlife education and houses several different endangered species in its collection. In 2008 the park opened an 8 acre safari exhibit. The zoo encompasses 70 acres altogether and can be seen in a few hours time.

Today visiting a zoo can be fairly expensive costing upwards of $20 per person but the Metro Richmond Zoo's admission fees are budget friendly. Admission fees for adults are $10.75, children are considerably less. Visit their website, http://www.metrorichmondzoo.com/index.html for more information.
