Richmond has a lot to offer in the way of family fun. One thing you will never hear from your kids when you are in Richmond is "I'm bored". From toddler to teens, Richmond and the greater metro area offers a variety of family fun opportunities for both the indoor and the outdoor enthusiast.
If it's a rainly day or you want to visit museums, Richmond has a fine Childrens Museum. Natural History Museum and the Museum of the Confederacy, all of which offers loads of family fun.
If however, the weather is fine and you are an outdoor loving family then head on over to James River Park. This five hundred acres park lines both banks of the James River from Huguenot Flatwater to Ancarrow's Landing. The park offers the opportunity to kayak, canoe, swim, jog, rock climb, hike, fish, and bird-watch or just enjoy the great outdoors in the midst of an urban atmosphere. You can easily go from the park to the downtown area and any of the other activities your family wants to take part in.
You can spend a few exhilarating hours or an entire day. There is a visitor center where you can pick up a map and find out any tours that might be given during your visit. North Bank Park offers access to Belle Isle the site of a Civil War Prison and gives you the opportunity to throw in a history lesson along with your outdoor activities.
Segway of Richmond
1301 E Cary St
If your children are old enough to enjoy this activity it is the best way to take a historic tour of Richmond. Hop on your segway and let your well trained guide take you to the State Capitol, St Paul's Church the Canal Walk on the James River and through Shockoe Slip. This and more will give you a unique perspective of Historic Richmond. Tours last for two hours and there are several to choose from including one of Hollywood Cemetery. How cool it that? Allow at least 2.5 hours for this activity since even for the most athletic there is a learning process that must be gone through before your tour begins.
G-Force Go Kart
4245 Carolina Ave, Building B
Again for the teens and preteens this is a great way to get their attention and let them blow off a little steam and energy. Children 8 years and up are allowed to operate the go-karts and if the adults want to take part as well, who can blame them. You can do one race or up to 20 and even an all day package. Once you make your first race you will be hooked so you may have to consider returning. Check their website for times and pricing. http://www.gforcekarts.com
