Draw on memories of special dates and write about them. Think about your favorite song and why you both liked it, think about the lyrics and the images evoked by them. Why do they move you? You could analyze favorite activities and experiences this way. Ideally, these should be the ones that made you fall in love with your mate, perhaps ones that you danced to, ones that made you both laugh so hard it hurt. Recently, I sent an early Valentine to my new fiance, Alexandre. I did buy a card with a bird couple and a bee couple on it, but then I added to it to make it much more personal. I wrote "I can't wait to fly into your arms!" Then I called him "Evangeliste",- he's training to be a youth minister- and Monsieur Hibou"- "Mr.Owl" we both like to stay up late. I signed it, "Avec amour, Evangeline"- with love, Evangeline (my nickname because I like to share my faith in French- and English (my first language), too, of course! Our favorite song is a Caribbean style French song called "Ca fait rire les oiseaux, Ca fait chanter les abeilles"- "That makes the birds laugh, That makes the bees sing". Its fun rhythm is so much fun to dance to. This past spring, we would waltz and sing to it at campus soirees at a French immersion program. We danced harder and faster than anyone else, but we're not graceful. We danced for the sheer joy of feeling our hearts beat fast as one, oblivious to our position in space (or outer space, Planet Love as some might say) and hoping to not send anyone to the hospital as a result of crashing into us. (don't worry, we only stepped on a few toes:))
Here is a corny poem I just wrote for him.
"Ode to Alex"
Ode to Alex, my little flower
He'll give me a ring
That will give me such power
Diamond giving is the least of his charms.
I can't wait to forever be in his arms!
