With the fledgling worldwide economy and its bleak outlook looming in the background, the Spring Colors of 2009 paint a picture of calm elegance and vibrant boldness. Modesty is the keyword for this season's fashions; combined with color palettes that compliment each other and create a more ladylike, gentille appeal. Soft creamy tints create a neutral backdrop, while electric hues emphasize eye-catching silhouettes. Blushing pink beiges, neutral beiges, creamy whites, and various tones of slate blue are popular color choices. Their soft, and dusty tonal qualities allow them to easily mix with other basic neutrals (e.g. navy), and achromatic black and white; therefore making them excellent choices.

The bold colors to wear this spring include orange, mango, tangerine, bright fuchsia, rusty red, magenta, and shocking hot pink; with the key colors being, lemon yellow, tangerine, orange and antique gold. Exotic colors, reminiscent of the 1980s dynamic flare! In the aqua blue/green family; vibrant green, jade, aqua, deep green, bright sky blue, and deep royal blue reign supreme, while citron green creates a fresh and clean vibe. Monochromatics still create trend setting styles in; slate grey, black, navy, light beigey taupe, cream and white.

This season's colors are represented by the classic, geometrical forms that were popular in the 80s. Re-vamped nautical wear designed with red, white and blue striped combinations, in tops and jackets create a true Maritime feel. Similarly white or navy colored, high-waisted, deep buttoned waistbands that flow into wide flared legs, pants with turn-ups, or button only closures re-create the high-fashion sailor look. Distressed denims, acid and stonewashed styles with ripped and frayed elements are also great pieces for the everyday fashion recessionista!

Large blocks of bright colors, mixes of soft sorbet tones, and combinations of brights paired with soft sorbet colors should grace the female form in boyfriend style jackets, and shoulder flattering tops (two of this season's must have pieces).

Voluminous puff, batwing, full length, cap and kimono sleeves draped in soft fabrics, bold colors and textures (e.g. chiffon and feathers) that emphasize the shoulders are key design elements this season. Similarly the retro chic, asymmetrical one-shoulder dress in short and floor length maxi gown styles (e.g. Michelle Obama's Inauguration Ball Gown), and Goddess draped designs (with or without embellished hems of feathers, fringe embroidery etc.) represent bold statement pieces of timeless elegance and design.

Metallics, florals, water-color prints, and exotic animal prints in bright vibrant non-animal colors play an important role when it comes to accessorizing this season. Nature inspired, smooth exotic brooches, as well as; huge necklaces and cocktail rings, retro and vintage gem looks, tribal necklaces, and stacked cuff bangles in citrus green, and yellow tones add sparkle and shine to every outfit.

Finally the piece de resistance that can make or break any outfit creates quite an impression this season with the resurgence of Taxi Cab Heels, and Gladiator Sandals in natural tones and bold colours; undoubtedly helping to make a lasting impression, and an unforgettable colorful 2009 Spring Fashion Season!
